I'm sure the employee that set it up originally meant well, but they're probably long gone by now and the files have gone through several generations of copies (I can tell because they're all xls and not xlsx) by people who clearly didn't know what they were doing. I don't know what to tell her at this point other than do "Copy and Paste Values" and start from scratch.
The other half lead to more files with similar formulas that pull from more other files in random locations, including some user's private share that only they can access. Today I got called asking for help with an Excel file where for some reason the numbers keep changing after the user inputs data and sends it to her department for approval.ġ0 minutes of looking through the spreadsheet and I find formulas that pull from a dozen other files in various locations, half of which don't exist or use file share path names that haven't existed in over two years. I keep seeing this issue come up in multiple departments at my employer, so I'm sure I'm not the only one.
